What’s a mobile?
Surely you’ve seen a baby cooing at a cute cluster of stuffed animals hovering from above the crib? That’s a mobile. But there’s more. Mobiles can be any type of hanging sculpture that moves. That’s why they’re also called kinetic sculpture.

The French artist Marcel Duchamp first coined the phrase “mobile” back in 1931—but not in reference to baby mobile. He was describing the hanging, moving creations of American artist Alexander Calder. 

Who’s Alexander Calder?
In 1931, Alexander Calder, an American mechanical engineer-turned-artist, created delicate sculptures that derived motion from air currents in the room. These sculptures were called mobiles, and a new art form was born. His mobiles are known for their bold colors, abstract shapes, and interesting movement.

Most orders ship the next business day. Custom orders and handmade mobiles from certain artists, including Moon-Lily, Q3, Steve DeSpirito, and Ekko Mobiles, may take a bit longer to ship. If you need one of these mobiles in a hurry, be sure to contact us via phone or e-mail to discuss your timeframe.

Just buy a screw eye bolt from our hanging tools section and screw it into your ceiling. Tie your mobile to the screw—and enjoy your new masterpiece!

I don't live in the United States. Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship just about everywhere. Our international shipments go out once or twice a week. Of course, it's up to you to provide an accurate address, and we can't guarantee delivery once it's left the US. But we have a pretty good track record.

I’d like promotional mobiles made with my company’s logo. Can you do that?
Definitely. We’ve created promotional mobiles for department stores, drug companies, marketing companies, consultants, law firms, movie sets, cable networks, designers, publishers, and much more. We can incorporate any design elements—logos, colors, text—for an individualized product. And we can do runs of one to one million at affordable prices.
